Selling on OBI Marketplace
A DIY marketplace in Germany and Austria. We onboard home, garden and renovation brands to the OBI network.
Author: Iwona Lewanczyk Rompca · co-founder of Commercraft, e-commerce and marketplace expert · updated: June 2026
OBI runs a curated marketplace in Germany and Austria (Austria since June 2026), combining its own sales (1P) with external partners’ offers (3P). It’s one of the largest DIY chains in the German-speaking region.
If you produce or distribute in home, garden, tools and renovation, you enter the large, mature DACH market. OBI doesn’t publish a fixed price list for sellers; the margin model and fees are agreed individually during onboarding. The marketplace is selective: partners are chosen by OBI’s Product Partnering team, with applications through the partner panel at partner.obi.de / partner.obi.at.
Related services: integration and automation, content and rich media, pricing strategy.

Note: every platform runs its own, often selective, seller qualification and decides independently whether to accept an offer. We help you meet the requirements, prepare and submit your application properly and manage the process, but we cannot guarantee acceptance, because that decision belongs to the operator.

How we can support you on OBI
Verification and KYC
We guide you through OBI's seller verification and registration: company data, an EU VAT number or OSS, an entry in the commercial register, and the KYC check run by OBI's payment provider. OBI also expects customer service in German and dispatch from a warehouse inside the EU. Selling into Germany brings its own registrations: packaging (LUCID under VerpackG), electrical goods (WEEE at stiftung ear) and batteries (BattG), which every German marketplace is obliged to verify. We tell you which ones apply to your range and help you prepare the paperwork, but we are not a law firm and we neither obtain these registrations for you nor give legal advice on them.
Listings and the product feed
We build the catalogue and feed to Mirakl's requirements: attributes, variants, technical parameters and EAN codes. We organise your product data so your offers are complete, searchable and ready to publish. Where the data is in good shape, we publish tens and sometimes hundreds of offers a day, and we can tell you how fast your catalogue will move before the engagement starts.
Content and rich media
We prepare descriptions, photos and rich media in German that help your customers choose products for the home, garden and renovation: parameters, applications and instructions. We match the content to OBI's standards and your customers' needs. We are an international team and some of us speak German fluently, so machine translation goes through a second, human pass before it reaches your product pages.
Integration through Mirakl
We connect your system to OBI's Mirakl panel: synchronised offers, stock and orders, and an automated flow of data. Your operations become repeatable, faster and less error-prone.
Logistics and service (FBM)
We design your shipping model for the German and Austrian markets, where the seller handles deliveries. We advise on the shipping model, the carriers worth using on each market and the rates you can realistically negotiate with them and with 3PL providers. We set lead times and logistics standards for DIY goods, including bulky items. More on how the corridor works: cross-border logistics into DACH.
Account management and optimization
We run your account day-to-day: sales, prices and quality metrics, responses to reviews and to shifts in the category. This is not optional upkeep. If delivery times slip, ratings fall or your range thins out below what the platform considers safe, OBI can quietly cut your visibility or suspend the account altogether. Our focus is steadily growing OBI's share of your revenue.
How the collaboration works, step by step
Checking the fit
We set your range against the DIY profile and cost the shipping to Germany and Austria at your real dimensions. OBI picks its partners itself, so without that calculation an application makes no sense.
Application and verification
The partner panel at partner.obi.de and partner.obi.at: company details, tax and VAT numbers, category fit, and for power tools and packaging the German LUCID and WEEE registrations.
Catalogue and content
A feed built for the Mirakl requirements, with attributes, technical parameters and EAN codes, plus descriptions and rich media in German.
Integration and logistics
We connect your system to the Mirakl panel and set the carriers, lead times and delivery standards for the FBM model in both markets.
Running the account
Prices, offers, account quality metrics and the response to changes in the terms, with a monthly report on what we changed and what came of it.
Who this service is for
We work with manufacturers and distributors who have a ready DIY range and want to take it into the German-speaking market. We change the most where:
Your catalogue sits in home, garden, tools or renovation.
Your margin carries the shipping to Germany and Austria at real dimensions and weight.
The product stands on its technical parameters, because that is what the product page looks like here.
You can run customer service and returns in German, or you are ready to set that up.
OBI qualifies sellers selectively and publishes no price list. You learn the terms only during onboarding, so we run the numbers earlier, on a range.

A mature market, a young platform
Germany and Austria are large, mature e-commerce markets with buyers who spend. OBI's marketplace opened in Germany in 2024 and in Austria in June 2026, and it is curated rather than open, so the DIY categories are nowhere near as crowded as on Amazon or Otto. That is where the position is still to be taken.
The DIY category
Home, garden, tools and renovation: a large, mature DACH market. Individual terms: no fixed price list, with the margin model and fees agreed during onboarding.

What an OBI marketplace agency costs
On the platform side OBI works differently from most marketplaces. It publishes no fixed price list for sellers, and the Product Partnering team sets the margin model and fees individually during onboarding. So we work the numbers on ranges and check them once you have the terms. The cost that weighs most here is shipping bulky goods to Germany and Austria.
On our side, running one marketplace starts at €900 net a month plus 2% of the revenue we manage, assuming up to 100 new SKUs a month that we adapt for the marketplace and publish, or at €1,600 a month with no commission. The product data is prepared once and then works across every channel.
We bill in four models: a flat fee, a flat fee plus a commission on revenue, commission only, or rising tiers. Which one fits depends on how mature the channel is, more than on the size of the company.
