Light Home: a Polish lamp manufacturer on DIY marketplaces and on Amazon.de
A one-person manufacturer sells through channels that brands usually enter with an export department behind them – Germany and France included.
The client
Light Home is a Polish indoor-lighting manufacturer: a sole trader with a workshop near Częstochowa and a catalogue of several hundred items: pendants, chandeliers, wall lights, ceiling lights. The client runs his own shop and his Allegro brand zone. The DIY and home marketplaces and Amazon.de are ours.
Where it started
A lamp manufacturer with a catalogue of a few hundred items has a natural advantage on DIY and home-chain marketplaces. His goods land exactly where people are renovating. The harder part is the data format. The chains describe products in their own way and expect suppliers to match it, so the shop catalogue has to be translated into that language. On a foreign market there is also the copy. It has to sell in another language, and it needs writing from scratch.
In practice that meant three obstacles:
- DIY chain marketplaces expect data in their own format,
- entering the German market means writing the copy in German from scratch,
- a small manufacturer has no department to run three channels at once.
What we did
- We run sales on Castorama: we list and maintain the client’s brand offers.
- We run sales on Leroy Merlin, including the French market.
- We run Amazon.de with rich content on the product cards. That means an extended description section with graphics.
- We keep the offers current: new products, fixes, and corrections of listing errors.
Results
The client now sells in three channels we run: two DIY and home-chain marketplaces, and Amazon.de, where the product cards carry extended rich content. On one of the chains, the French market was added.
What this means for you
Small manufacturers often assume that retail chains and foreign markets are out of reach because they have no export department. You don’t need the department. You need product data prepared for the requirements of the particular chain, and someone running those channels day to day. See how we launch sales on Amazon.de: Amazon.de step by step
