Set up each platform in its own tab. The chart below shows projected revenue and profit in Poland straight away, with your industry’s seasonality. Commission rates come from the platforms’ price lists, with the date we checked them. Where a platform publishes no price list, we show an estimate and label it clearly. All amounts are in euros. Fees from Polish price lists are converted at 4.3633 PLN per euro (NBP, 18 September 2026).

Your team’s cost

Add the people who run your marketplace sales and tick the channels each of them covers. We deduct the team cost from the profit in the chart below.

You enter the full monthly employer cost per person. The starting values are average gross monthly salaries in Berlin from the StepStone salary report (September 2026) plus the employer’s share of German social insurance, 21.15% (pension 9.3%, health 7.3% plus half of the average 2.9% supplementary rate, long-term care 1.8%, unemployment 1.3%): junior e-commerce manager €3,635, e-commerce manager €4,634, senior e-commerce manager €5,138, head of e-commerce €5,795. Change them to match your team. To keep it simple we leave out recruitment, training, tools and equipment, so the real cost of a team is higher.

Projected revenue and profit in Poland

All tabs combined. The curve follows your industry’s seasonality: monthly revenue moves around the trend, and the peaks and troughs depend on the starting month.

The result is an estimate, not an offer. The curve reflects typical seasonality for each industry in Polish e-commerce (sources in Polish: Izba Gospodarki Elektronicznej, the Gemius report “E-commerce w Polsce”, wGospodarce.pl, Veneo Performance).

Off by default. The result above stays as it is.

Our clients pay us between a few hundred and several thousand euros a month, depending on the scope and size of the engagement. In every case we make sure the arrangement adds up for the client. The hardest part about hiring an agency is that costs and returns stay opaque. Here you do the arithmetic yourself first.

This is the total fee for the whole engagement, covering every tab above. Illustrative starting terms: €900 a month + 2% commission on channel revenue or €1,600 a month with no commission. At the minimum rate we assume around 100 new SKUs listed per month. With several platforms or countries we bundle the channels, so the fee per channel can drop considerably, depending on how many channels we run and their revenue. Listing a large number of SKUs quickly and well is part of our shared success, especially ahead of peak season. We know that in some scenarios our standard service will not pay off for the client, so we talk to those companies individually. We prefer long-term partnerships and are happy to discuss the potential of any concept. Every big business was small once.

You pay less at the start, and the rate rises once sales pick up. Set which amount applies from which month.

from monthamount per month (€)

€500 to €1,400 at the start of the engagement, depending on the tools and integrations already in place. Charged once, in month one.

We calculate the Commercraft commission on channel revenue before returns: a consumer sending goods back does not reduce our commission. This is not an offer. The chart shows how an engagement with us works. The figures are estimates, meant to help you judge when the engagement starts to pay for itself.

What decides whether a channel pays

The profitability of a channel comes down to one equation. From revenue you subtract the cost of goods, the platform commission, shipping and returns, and the cost of running the channel. What is left, divided by the cost of running it, is your return.

In practice most people get two things wrong. They set the commission too low, because they take the headline rate and miss the additional fees. And they leave the cost of running the channel out altogether, because their own team does not send an invoice and so looks free.

The calculator above keeps both items separate. What each platform charges is set out in our commission comparison, category by category, with the conditions attached.

What it costs to run the channel yourself

The obvious move is to hire someone. That is a reasonable route, it just has to be costed to the end:

ItemOrder of magnitude
Marketplace specialist, employer cost in Poland€1,900-3,000 / month
Integrator and tools (Base.com, price monitoring)€70-350 / month
Time to first sale when everything is learned from scratch3-6 months
One platform or sixthe same salary, six times the work

One person covers one platform, maybe two. At six channels you either hire a second person or the channels run under-served. That threshold is what the calculator shows most clearly.

These orders of magnitude come from our own projects between 2024 and 2026. Your own figures go into the calculator above.

What the same thing costs with us

Running one platform starts at €900 a month plus 2% commission on channel revenue, or €1,600 a month with no commission. These rates assume up to 100 new SKUs a month that we adapt to the platform and publish.

With several platforms or countries we bundle the channels, so the fee per channel can drop considerably, depending on how many channels we run and their revenue. The full terms are agreed in a conversation.

An example: a lighting manufacturer enters two DIY marketplaces in Poland

A European manufacturer with around four hundred models in the catalogue starts on two Polish DIY platforms. Assume €28,000 monthly revenue after six months, a 40% gross margin and platform commissions around 12%.

  1. Gross margin: €11,200.
  2. Platform commission: about €3,400.
  3. Shipping and returns on bulky goods: about €2,100.
  4. Running both channels with us: €2,100.
  5. That leaves around €3,600 a month. With an in-house team the figure is similar, six months later.

This is an illustration and carries no commitment. It only means something with your numbers, in the calculator above.

Frequently asked questions

Is selling on marketplaces worth it?

It is worth it when the gross margin after commission and shipping covers the cost of running the channel and leaves a surplus. Below a 25% margin and below roughly €10,000 monthly revenue the arithmetic usually does not work, whoever runs the channel.

What commissions do foreign marketplaces charge?

In most categories between 7 and 20%, and some platforms add a base fee on top. The terms platform by platform are in our commission comparison.

Is it worth entering OBI or XXXLutz?

Both platforms operate in Germany and Austria, in categories with a high basket value. On bulky goods the cross-border shipping cost decides the outcome, which is why everything hangs on that one field. The requirements are set out on our pages for OBI and XXXLutz.

Hire someone, or hand the channel to an agency?

With one platform and a simple range, your own person is usually enough. From three channels and several language markets one salary no longer covers the scope, and the difference falls in our favour.

What data do I need for the calculation?

Monthly revenue in the channel, or the revenue you expect, the gross margin on the products, the platform commission, the cost of shipping and returns, and the cost of running the channel. Five numbers are enough.

Is the calculator's result binding?

No. It is an estimate built on your assumptions, showing the order of magnitude and the break-even point. We quote after a conversation about your range and channels.

Does the result look promising?

A quarter of an hour is enough to test the assumptions against your own range.
