Brand protection on marketplaces: Brand Registry, price monitoring and unauthorized sellers

Brand protection on marketplaces: Brand Registry, price monitoring, and action against unauthorised sellers.

In short

The better your brand sells, the bigger a target it becomes: counterfeits, unauthorised sellers on your cards, card hijacking, price violations and copied content.

Protection starts with a registered trademark, because it opens the platform brand-protection programmes.

Then monitoring of your cards, control of the distribution channel, strong original content and fast reaction, and an EU trademark also covers the DACH markets.

Success on a marketplace has a dark side: the better your brand sells, the bigger a target it becomes. Products impersonating your brand, third-party offers attached to your cards, counterfeits and price violations can quietly drain your sales and reputation. Brand protection on marketplaces is now a separate area of management. We will show what to watch out for and how to defend your brand.

Why your brand needs protection on a marketplace

A marketplace is an open environment. Many sellers can appear on the same product card, and control over who presents your product and how can be limited. This creates specific threats: a seller adds a lower-quality offer to your card, sells counterfeits under your name or ruins your price positioning. Without active protection, you lose control over your image and margin.

The most common threats

  • counterfeits are products that imitate your brand,
  • unauthorised sellers who join your cards,
  • card hijacking means taking control of the content of your offer,
  • price violations that ruin your positioning and trigger price wars,
  • content copying of your descriptions and photos by competitors.

The foundation: a registered trademark

The most effective protection starts with a formality: a registered trademark. It gives you access to platform brand-protection programmes (such as the brand registries on major marketplaces), which provide real tools: priority reporting of violations, greater control over cards and faster removal of counterfeits. Without a trademark, you are left mainly with standard reporting paths, which are much slower.

How to protect your brand in practice

register a trademark (national or EU) and join brand-protection programmes,

monitor your cards and performance for third-party offers and counterfeits,

control your distribution channel: who sells your product and on what terms,

maintain strong, original content that is harder to copy and easier to defend,

react quickly. The sooner you report a violation, the smaller the damage.

Brand protection and expansion into DACH

When entering new markets, secure protection in advance. An EU-level trademark registration also covers the DACH markets, and a well-structured distribution channel makes it easier to control who sells your product in Germany or Austria. It is an investment that protects your margin exactly when it starts to grow.
